What an NZRA assessor does
Every guide must be assessed by an NZRA-approved assessor. Assessors are experienced river professionals who assess candidates against the national river guide qualification standards — on the water and through the assessment portal — and help keep the qualification consistent and credible across the industry.
Who we're looking for
We're after senior, experienced guides with the relevant endorsements and current river rescue skills, a strong safety record, and the ability to assess others fairly and consistently. NZRA will confirm the current eligibility requirements with you as part of the process.
The process
- Submit the expression of interest below.
- NZRA reviews your experience and qualifications and confirms the current requirements.
- Complete any assessor onboarding required, then you're set up with assessor access on the portal.
