Since October 2020 White Water Rafting has been under the Adventure Activities Regulations 2016. Prior to this Rafting was under Maritime New Zealand Rule Part 81.

The reluctant move from Maritime to the AAR has been well received by most operators into a system that also brings a broader health and safety policies to care for the operator its staff and clients.

 

As of May 2021 there is only one audit body able to audit white water rafting which is Adventure Mark. In some regards this brings equality to all operators and assurance that all operators continue to operate at the highest level within the adventure tourism sector.
