Since October 2020 White Water Rafting has been under the Adventure Activities Regulations 2016. Prior to this Rafting was under Maritime New Zealand Rule Part 81.

The reluctant move from Maritime to the AAR has been well received by most operators into a system that also brings a broader health and safety policies to care for the operator its staff and clients.
